I was a big reader of war comics as a child but I read “Warlord” and not “Battle” where Charley’s war was first published. I am also a big fan of Pat Mills as he penned some of my all time favorite comic strips such as Ro-busters and ABC warriors. I decided to buy this hardback version of Charley’s war as Amazon.co.uk was selling them very cheaply. I particularly enjoyed the extras in the book with interviews, timelines, real history and background stories. The artwork is very faithful to the old comic book originals and as such fairly low tech but it fits the subject matter so well. The story is engaging and very though provoking especially as Pat Mills went through huge amounts of research to keep it authentic. I would even go as far as saying the book is moving in a way few comic strips can hope to achieve. Highly recommended. (ISBN-13: 978-1840236279). 8/10.
